Jose Mourinho didn't dispute the penalty
given against Manchester United for Paul
Pogba's bizarre handball in their draw with
Liverpool on Sunday.
He did, however, use being asked about it as
the ideal excuse to complain about how he
believes his side is getting the wrong end of
the referee's whistle when it comes to spot
kicks.
Pogba handled inside his area in the 26th
minute after misjudging a header to gift
Liverpool a penalty, which James Milner converted.
After United saved a point through a brilliant
Zlatan Ibrahimovic header on 84 minutes,
the Manchester Evening News reports
Mourinho deflected attention away from
Pogba and indirectly onto the referees.
"I don't know. I don't know," Mourinho said
when asked whether Pogba spoke about the
concession. "I didn't watch but the referee
was very close so probably it's a penalty.
"The problem with the penalty is not just the
criteria, sometimes you give, sometimes you
don't and it's amazing that 19, 21, 21
Premier League matches, plus the three in
the League Cup are 24, and one in the FA
Cup is 25, in 25 matches we have had one
penalty, but today was in our box.
"I didn't watch but I have to believe it was a
penalty, I am happy for the referee if it was
a penalty because his record against us is
three matches and three penalties against
us."
When asked if there was a bias against
giving United penalties, Mourinho added:
"No. No, no. You use that word, I don't, I'm
telling you I didn't watch but it looks like it
was a penalty and he [the referee] tells me
this time it is a penalty.
The referee, Michael Oliver, gave penalties
against United at Watford and Everton
before he correctly adjudged Pogba had
handled inside his own 18-yard box.
United's only Premier League spot kick this
season came in their second fixture against Southampton. They also won two penalties
in the Europa League thrashing of
Feyenoord.
